A Litany of Gratitude

For awakening from sleep, when others have not.

{God}, I give you thanks.

For the ability to breathe, when for many each breath is a struggle.

{God}, I give you thanks.

For the opening of my eyes to see, when many are blind.

{God}, I give you thanks.

For the ability to stand, when others are disabled.

{God}, I give you thanks.

For a roof over my head, when many are homeless.

{God}, I give you thanks.

For a bed to lie in, when others sleep on the floor or ground.

{God}, I give you thanks.

For the warmth of clean blankets, when others shiver in the cold.

{God}, I give you thanks.

For hot water and a shower, when others have no running water at all.

{God}, I give you thanks.

For food to eat, when many will go hungry.

{God}, I give you thanks.

For partners and family, when so many are lonely and afraid.

{God}, I give you thanks.

For work to attend to, when others are unemployed.

{God}, I give you thanks.

That I might avoid the distractions of the world and the
lure of lust and greed.

{God}, grant me the grace to fulfill it.

That I may live in thanksgiving, and avoid complaining.

{God}, grant me the grace to fulfill it.

That I might find joy in all that I have, and want
for nothing more.

{God}, grant me the grace to fulfill it.

That I might take only what I need, and give freely of all that
remains.

{God}, grant me the grace to fulfill it.

That I might never take one single breath, step, provision,
or opportunity for granted.

{God}, grant me the grace to fulfill it.

{God}, I pray for those who have not, that they might also have. I come before you in humility and thanksgiving for your incredible grace and provision. With my own needs well met, teach me to serve and give out of my abundance, that I might not be counted as one of the world, but as one seeking to bring Heaven to earth.

Amen.
